District 5610 Delegate's Report
10/10/2006
Zones 25 and 26 alternate R.I. Directors to Rotary International Board of Directors. This is the year Zone 25, the Zone to which District 5610 is assigned, met to nominate an R.I. Director for 2008-2010. This meeting was held in Denver on 1 October at the Marriott Denver Tech Hotel. Zone 25 is comprised of 15 Districts. Each District has one delegate on the nominating committee. I was privileged to be our District's delegate. Prior to the meeting, George Wheeler of Peoria, AZ, the committee's convener, solicited questions from the delegates for use in interviewing the candidates. Starting at 11:00 AM, each candidate, along with his or her Rotary Partner, were interviewed for 30 minutes. This year there were 10 candidates. The candidates were all highly qualified to run for R.I. Director. Following the last interview, the committee discussed the candidates and delegates who wanted to speak about their favorite candidates could do so. When all discussion was completed, a vote was taken. From this vote, the top 3 vote getters were voted upon. I'm very happy and pleased to report that Phil Silvers of the Rotary Club of Tucson Sunrise was overwhelming nominated to serve for two years as the R. I. Director from Zone 25 beginning in 2008. Many of you had the opportunity to meet Phil at the District 5610 Conference or one of the several Rotary Clubs he visited while in our District. My experience was extremely rewarding and educational. I would encourage any Past District Governor in District 5610, who has interest in Zone or international activities, to place your name in competition for delegate to the next Nominating Committee meeting in 4 years. Respectful submitted by Don Boyden, D.D.S., PDG
