Vivian Adams

District Governor

Vivian was born in Baltimore, Maryland, grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, before moving to Sioux City, Iowa.  She also lived in Minnesota, and Virginia, before moving back to Sioux City.

Vivian has been married to Mark Adams for since 1967.  They recently (last year) celebrated their 40th anniversary with a 5 ½ week driving trip to Alaska.  They have three sons – Jeffrey, Brent, and Shawn, and four grandchildren, Lexi, Ava, Cade, and Adele. 

Vivian attended Cumberland College of Tennessee, Morningside College, University of Virginia, and Western Iowa Tech Community College.  She has been a Bookkeeper/Office Manager/Business Manager, working in several different fields, including construction, funeral, automobile, meat production, meatpacking, moving & storage, and hospitality.  She owns Adams Bookkeeping Service; and is an officer and board member of Allied Land and Home, Inc. a new home construction company. 

Vivian has been a member of Suburban Sioux City Rotary since 1987 and has perfect attendance since joining.  She was club President in 1990-1991, and has been club Secretary since 1991.  She served on District 5610’s Youth Exchange Committee for 12 years, was Chairman for 11 years, and has hosted many exchange students.  She became a Paul Harris Fellow in 1997 and is now a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow - Mark, Jeffrey, Brent, and Shawn are all Paul Harris Fellows.  She has twice been the recipient of the District Governor’s Citation, and has also named Outstanding District Rotarian of the year. 

Vivian has attended Rotary meetings in many states and several countries.  She loves seeing how other clubs operate, and meeting other Rotarians.  She has served as a panel participant at a Brazilian/Latin American Youth Exchange Officers Conference.

Vivian has attended all but one District Conference since joining Rotary, but has attended a District Conference in Australia.  She has attended many Rotary International Conventions, and participated in Rotary Friendship Exchanges.
