They say the second Friday is when most New Year’s resolutions have been broken.  Fortunately, being a Rotarian is not a resolution to be broken but an ideal to strive for.  I recently facilitated a program for newer members of my Rotary club.  We talked about the different types of grants, District and Global, how the Rotary Foundation works, what the Youth Exchange and  the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) are about.  We talked about the opportunity of going on a Friendship Exchange and a humanitarian trip.  We also reviewed the structure of Rotary.  Club, District, Zone and Rotary International.  And we talked about the impact that we as Rotarians make in this world.

Rotary International is a big organization with a lot of moving parts.  Do you let your new members know about Rotary without them having to find it out for themselves?  Shorten the learning curve for them.  Mentor a new member and talk about Rotary and what it means to you.

Rotary shouldn’t be a secret.  Not to our members and not to everyone else.  Have you asked someone you know that shares our value of Service Above Self?  There are so many people who want to give back but don’t know how.  We can help them find their passion.  Remember how you became a member?  You were asked!  It’s your turn to do the same for someone else."
